What happened in Wolfsbane?
- Calla wakes up, having been taken away by the Searchers. Their Guide, Monroe, explains that they want Calla to lead her pack as their Guardians. He introduces Calla to more Searchers.
- Calla meets Ethan properly, along with Conner and Ariadne, and Anika and Lydia.
- Anika tells Calla and Shay that the Searchers are trying to form an alliance with the Guardians to fight against the Keepers. They hope this will work this time because they have Shay, who you may remember is the scion.
- Calla discovers that Monroe may know Ren’s mother.
- A Scribe named Silas shows up. He tells her that one of her school teachers – Grant – is in on all of this.
- Isaac and Tess are Reapers, who are basically smugglers for the Searchers.
- Calla and co. return to Vail. They find Grant dead in his home. Calla goes to find her pack, and is attacked by Sasha, Fey’s mother. Calla escapes and bumps into Ren’s father, Emile, who’s not the nicest person. Emile implies that Calla’s father may not be okay.
- the group start to escape back through a portal, but Lydia is captured and killed by Guardians.
- Calla and Shay learn that there are pieces of a cross at four different sacred sites, and if put together these pieces will form a weapon for Shay to use to banish wraiths.
- We learn that Keepers, the witchy folk, get their powers from the Nether. The group plans to close the door to the Nether in order to destroy the Keepers’ powers.
- Calla and Shay get together and it’s all a bit gross in my opinion. Calla is also hesitant because she’s meant to be with Ren. She tells Shay she won’t be with him until her pack is safe and Shay goes off in a strop.
- Shay learns that he must be the son of the Keeper that betrayed the others. He has a tattoo that indicates this.
- Monroe reveals that he was with Corrine, Ren’s mother, until she was given to Emile. She wanted to start a revolt because she was so unhappy, but she fell pregnant with Monroe’s baby, who we now know is Ren. She started the revolt up again and was discovered and killed.
- Calla and Shay get together yet again and I was about to DNF the book, in all honesty. Calla stops them.
- Ethan find Ansel, Calla’s brother, and Calla heals him. Ansel is upset because he’s not a Guardian any more. He fills everyone in on what has been going on since Calla left Vail. He says the rest of the pack are imprisoned. Calla and Ansel’s mother was killed for not controlling her daughter, and the Nightshade pack has now been disbanded.
- Monroe plans to rescue the pack.
- Calla tries to turn Ansel into a Guardian again but it doesn’t work.
- Ariadne opens a portal to the prison. they only have to fight off one Guardian, which seems sus. They manage to free a couple of pack members, and then have to fight off more Guardians. They find that Sabine has been tortured for not joining the Bane pack.
- Ethan shoots a gargoyle, which is actually an alarm system. The Guardians are alerted. Calla tries to rescue Ren, but he does not want to go with her. He wants to stay with the Guardians and the Keepers.
- Emile and his pack arrive. Emile tells Ren that Monroe is his real father, and that he killed Ren’s mother.
- Most of the pack escape, although Monroe is captured. They head back to base, but they’re ambushed. A wraith has been sent to kill them. Isaac is killed, but everyone else escapes.
- Logan, the Keeper that Calla’s pack was supposed to protect, follows the group and tells them that Shay’s father, Tristan, is still alive. He tells the group that Ansel is a traitor.
- The Academy moves its base to Italy.
- Calla is finding this all a bit much and runs off, to be followed by Shay as usual.
- Adne asks Calla to help rescue Ren, now that she knows they’re siblings. Adne tracks Ren down and they end up at the site where the pack was meant to be living. The book ends with Calla going to find Ren.
