What happened in Silence?
- In the prologue, Patch and Hank are meeting in the graveyard. They’re trying to come up with a deal. In exchange for Patch helping to spy on the fallen angels, Hank will wipe Nora’s memories entirely and release her. Patch will also let Hank take his wings.
- Nora wakes up next to her father’s grave in the same graveyard. She can’t remember how she got there. There’s a groundskeeper there who tries to turn her into Hank, so Nora runs off.
- Nora figures out that her memory between April and September is missing.
- Detective Basso finds Nora and takes her to hospital. Nora is released into her mother’s care.
- Nora rests, and finds a warning note in her room. She tries to show her mother, but the note is now blank.
- Nora speaks to some people about what has been going on the last few months. She finds that she was kidnapped by someone, but her memory is missing from even further before that.
- Nora rediscovers that her mother is dating Hank Millar, Marcie’s father.
- Nora goes out to dinner with her mother and Hank. Marcie and her own mother show up. Marcie takes Nora to the bathroom, and tells her about a guy called Patch. Marcie asks Nora for the necklace back. Nora is freaked out and confused because she doesn’t share any friends with Marcie, particularly no one called Patch.
- Nora leaves the restaurant and goes to call her friend Vee to ask for a lift home. Nora spots three fallen angels trying to make a Nephil swear fealty to them. Nora has to run off and has to be rescued by a man called Jev. She thinks she might recognise him.
- Nora touches Jev’s wing scars and sees an archangel trapped by Hank.
- Nora, now thoroughly confused, drives over to the beach. She bumps into Scott, who tells her what has been going on. They plan to take down the Black Hand together.
- Nora and Scott go to a warehouse which may be owned by the Black Hand. They don’t find much there, and they are almost caught but they are able to escape. Scott refuses to go back to the warehouse a second time but Nora wants another mooch about.
- Nora bumps into Hank’s Nephilim recruits. Jev saves her from her own idiocy and tells her about what has been going on.
- Nora realises that Jev is Patch, the friend that Marcie was talking about. Nora doesn’t remember being in a relationship with him, which might be for the best because it was rubbish, so she takes some time to figure out what she’s feeling.
- Nora is nominated for Homecoming Queen, which is a scheme that has been put into effect by Marcie. Apparently Hank told Marcie to be nice.
- Marcie takes Nora dress shopping. Nora picks out a dress and Patch meets her in the dressing room. A Nephil then steals her purse.
- Nora is called into the school’s office. Hank is there, and he tells her that her mother fell down the stairs and has been taken to hospital. Hank takes off with Nora.
- Three men attack Hank’s truck. Hank says something about fallen angels. Nora is thrown out of the car and loses consciousness. She is taken to hospital herself.
- Hank is fine, of course. He takes Nora home.
- Patch hears about what has been going on and visits Nora in secret. They talk for a bit and Hank nearly walks in on them, so Patch has to escape quickly.
- Scott invites Nora to a gig that he’s doing with his band. Vee picks Nora up and drives her to The Devil’s Handbag. They meet a woman called Dabria, who is an ex of Patch’s. She starts bad mouthing Patch.
- Nora spots one of the guys who attacked Hank’s car. Patch tells her it’s a Nephil.
- Nora is driven home by Vee, but then heads to Patch’s house. Dabria is there, and tells Patch she wants thousands of dollars in exchange for information on Hank’s future.
- Patch and Dabria go off to investigate Hank. Nora stays behind.
- Scott rings Nora and asks for her help. She goes to help him, he kisses her, and then he throws his Black Hand ring into the ocean. The two of them try to escape but are captured by the Black Hand’s goons.
- Hank tells Nora that he gave her a blood transfusion after the car accident. This turned her into a Nephil. He makes her swear to take his place if he dies. Hank promises he will leave town.
- Nora takes her mother and drives her home. She also picks Marcie up along the way.
- Nora goes to see Patch again and explains what has been happening. Patch tells nora that he saved an archangel and made a deal with Hank. Patch tells Nora that Hank is now chained up and can’t escape. Nora decides to leave him there initially, but Hank is a wrong’un and tries to burn one of Patch’s feathers. Nora shoots Hank.
- Scott and two Black Hand goons show up and tell Nora there’s going to be a war.
- Nora thinks about how she may have to lead the Nephil against the angels.
