Goodreads Summary:

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

What happened in Hush, Hush?

  • A boy with dark hair (this is important, as his hair colour is mentioned so. many. times.) approached a guy called Chauncey in a field. The dark haired boy asks Chauncey about his lineage, and tells him that his bio dad was a fallen angel. This makes poor Chauncey a Nephil, which is an unfortunate term.
  • Chauncey swears fealty to the dark haired boy and the boy walks away.
  • Nora is in biology and is about to get the sex ed talk. Nora is put next to a new guy called Patch. She obviously doesn’t know him but he knows a lot about her. He gives her his number.
  • Nora heads home. We learn that her mother is out of town and her father was murdered ages ago, so she’s alone.
  • Nora calls Patch about the biology homework and he hangs up on her. She heads to his last known location – the pool hall – and she confronts him because she’s annoyed. She tries to interview him for the assignment and he gives her really creepy answers. Even more annoyed, Nora leaves.
  • That night, Nora thinks she can feel something at her window. Nothing is there when she checks.
  • Vee and Nora head to Delphic Coast Park. It’s a cute little beach side theme park. They meet Elliot and Jules in the arcade, and Patch is there too. Nora ignores him but Elliot goes to speak to him. Patch gets Nora to ditch the double date and talks to her without opening his mouth. Nora asks how he does it but he pretends not to know what she’s talking about.
  • Nora sees a hooded figure out of the corner of her eye. She bumps into Patch and they ride the Archangel together. Nora thinks her seatbelt is undone and she almost falls out of the carraige, but it turns out she’s fine and this is just some kind of mind game.
  • Patch follows Nora as she looks for her friends. They seem to have left her so Patch offers to take her home on his bike. They reach Nora’s house and they cook together. Patch kisses Nora’s shoulder and before he leaves he reminds her of the party that’s happening the following night.
  • Vee calls Nora for all the details.
  • Nora goes out shopping and sees the hooded figure again. Nora thinks it’s a woman.
  • Vee is attacked and mugged. Nora calls the cops and Vee is taken to hospital.
  • Nora goes to school. Patch is absent. Nora asks to go and see the psychiatrist, who asks about her father’s murder.
  • Nora heads to the library and reads about a girl called Kirsten who hanged herself in the woods nearby. Elliot was questioned but they found a suicide note and he was let go. Elliot asks Nora out for dinner but she’s not interested, especially after reading that article.
  • Nora visits Vee in hospital and asks her about the attack. Vee says the guy who attacked her looked a bit like Patch.
  • Vee is released from hospital and she and Nora go to the restaurant where Patch works. Vee admits to inviting Jules and Elliot, but Jules is ill and can’t make it. Nora diguises herself and asks the bartender about Patch. She doesn’t really find out much.
  • Patch finds her and teases her about her investiation.
  • Nora heads home and finds her room has been searched. She sees a guy in a ski mask jump out of her window. She calls the cops but they don’t find anything.
  • Nora and Vee are talking during biology and the teacher makes Nora move next to Patch again.
  • Nora speaks to the psychiatrist, who warns her against spending time with Patch.
  • Marcia and Nora argue. Nora storms off and bumps into Patch, who refuses to answer her questions but he does offer her a ride. He asks her out on a date on Saturday.
  • The cops arrive as Nora is getting read for her date. They ask about her fight with Marcia, who has been beaten up. The cops leave. Patch arrives and takes Nora to Bo’s Arcade.
  • A friend of Patch’s named Rixon arrives. He and Patch get into a fight, and Patch’s shirt rips. Nora spots a scar on Patch’s back.
  • Nora searches Patch’s car and finds a torch with blood on it. Patch sees her and says it’s paint. He drops her home, and Nora’s mum finally gets back. She has some questions for Patch.
  • Nora calls Vee and realises that the scar on Patch’s back matches the scar on the Archangel ride. Nora starts researching fallen angels.
  • Someone knocks on Nora’s door and when she answers she finds a drunken Elliot. He asks Nora to come camping with him, Jules, and Vee. Nora declines, and he becomes angry. He shoves her. Nora’s mum intervenes, and Nora calls Vee to explain what happened.
  • Nora continues her investigation and goes to the diner where Kirsten was working before she died. The waitress there fills Nora in.
  • Vee messages Nora and says she’s at a party in Portland. Elliot and Jules just left to get something. Nora heads to the party but gets lost. A car pulls up and kills a homeless person. Nora finds a phone booth and calls Patch, who picks her up and takes her home.
  • His jeep breaks down though so they don’t get very far. They find a motel and stay there overnight. Nora touches Patch’s scar and gets a vision of the past.
  • Nora sees Patch’s ex girlfriend, Dabria, tell Patch that he must save someone’s life to become a guardian angel. He asks who he is meant to save and Dabria gives him Nora’s name. Nora sees Patch try to kill her.
  • Now out of the vision, Patch tries to explain that he did attempt to kill Nora initially but he couldn’t do it. Nora touches his scar again and sees another vision.
  • This one shows Patch speaking to Rixon, and the two are trying to decide on something. Patch has to either save a human and become a guardian angel, or kill the human vessel that he’s in to become human.
  • Patch explains that he became a fallen angel because he fell in love with a human girl. He’s determined not to become a guardian angel. Nora tells Patch she knows who Dabria is – it’s the psychiatrist from the school.
  • Patch goes to search the school to find out what Dabria is up to. Dabria shows up at Nora’s house and plans to kill Nora.
  • Dabria reveals that Nora is the descendant of Patch’s vessel, Chauncey. If Dabria kills Nora, Patch should become human. At least, according to the Book of Enoch.
  • Dabria sets fire to Nora’s house. Nora calls the police.
  • Patch shows up and tells Nora to drive to Delphic Park. She tries to call Vee on the way but Vee doesn’t answer her phone. Vee’s mum answers and tells Nora that Vee is out at the cinema. Nora goes looking for Vee.
  • Nora can’t find Vee at the cinema. Patch shows up and follows her to the bathroom. He promises he doesn’t want to sacrifice her, and that he’s actually super into her. They kiss.
  • Vee calls Nora and tells her to come to the school to play hide and seek with her, Elliot, and Jules. Elliot takes the phone and threatens to kill Vee if Nora doesn’t show up.
  • Patch goes to take Nora to the school and finds his tyres slashed. Nora asks to borrow a classmate’s car, and Patch has to pay the guy to borrow it.
  • Nora waits in the car while Patch searches the school. Elliot calls Nora and says he can see her from a window. Nora heads inside and finds Jules’ body.
  • Nora finds Elliot. He’s dying in the library. She leaves him and is then attacked by Jules. Jules says he is Chauncey, and he plans to hurt Nora to get back at Patch for using his body. Nora stabs Jules/Chauncey with a scalpel.
  • Nora finds Vee and they run for help. Chauncey intercepts them. Vee runs off and Nora heads for the gym. Chauncey points a gun at Nora. Patch possesses Nora and gets Jules/Chauncey into a chokehold. Patch almost manages to knock him out but then has to leave Nora’s body.
  • Nora climbs a ladder and it starts to fall, but Patch tells her it’s an illusion. Nora reaches the rafters and Chauncey is following.
  • Nora throws herself off the rafters.
  • Nora wakes up in her bed. Patch says he turned down her sacrifice because he didn’t want to be human if she was dead. The sacrifice killed Chauncey, as he didn’t have a soul to reanimate his body.
  • Vee tells Nora she doesn’t remember much of what happened. Vee thinks Patch killed Jules. The police arrive to take Nora’s statement. She tells them Miss Greene is dodgy.
