What happened in Crossed?
- A boy dies from dehydration and Vick and Ky put his body in the river. They give him a nice send off.
- Cassia is about to return to the city as a Citizen and be assigned a job. She starts trying to figure out how to get back in touch with Ky.
- Cassia meets her match, Xander.
- Ky is pretending to be a villager with a bunch of other people. He wants to know why no one makes it out and back into the Capital.
- Some decoys head up to a plateau to make some water from snow. Ky digs graves instead of going with them, and the rest of them die.
- Xander and Cassia go out to a museum. They are escorted by an Official, who allows them some space. Cassia speaks to an Archivist and asks for a map to get to the Outer Provinces. They leave the museum.
- Xander tells Cassia he has been given an assignment and will have to leave soon. Cassia becomes upset and Xander gets angry.
- Ky and Vick talk abotu their survival. Vick tells Ky that the blue pills don’t make you survive, they freeze you until someone can help out. Or you die anyway.
- The decoys go on the move and it’s a bit closer to Ky’s home. Eli joins the group.
- Ky tells Vick they should try to get to the canyons for safety.
- Cassia reads the paper she was given at the museum. It’s a story of a man who pushed a stone up a hill to create a river. It’s also about an uprising. She destroys it.
- Cassia gives herself up to the Officers who have been collecting girls.
- The girls are searched when they’re put on the airship. Cassia is worried about her pills being discovered, so Indie helps her hide them. The girls are told that they’re going to a special work camp in the Outer Provinces.
- Vick receives a message that some girls are being sent to them. Ky, Eli, and Vick try to escape to the canyon.
- The girls are dropped off in the village. Cassia asks around about Ky. Someone tells her that he left for the canyon a couple of nights ago. Cassia and Indie run to find him.
- Ky cuts up his jacket that the Society gave him and finds a data collecting device. He figures the Society is trying to suss out death.
- Cassia and Indie find water and plants, which is useful. They’re hot on Ky’s trail, it seems. Indie admits that she knows about the rebellion because her mother tried to escape via a boat, but it didn’t work out.
- Ky, Vick, and Eli come across a settlement but the Farmers seem to have left it. They find lots of books, weapons, and food in the caves. They also find a map.
- Indie and Cassia come across some burnt bodies.
- Ky fills Vick and Eli in on what he knows about the Rising. They wonder if Ky’s father was the Pilot, the leader of the rebellion.
- Ky dreams of Cassia and Cassia dreams of Xander.
- Cassia takes a blue tablet because she’s feeling the effects of stress and malnutrition. The boy is outside the cave when Cassia checks so she lets him come with her and Indie as they move on.
- Eli reveals that his parents got sick and died. Vick tells them he was in love with a girl called Laney.
- Indie tells Cassia she shouldn’t be taking the blue pills as they’re poison.
- Vick goes fishing and Ky and Eli hear gunfire nearby. Vick is killed and Ky buries him.
- Eli asks Ky to say the sacred words over Vick’s grave but Ky doesn’t want to. The pair move off and bump into Cassia and Indie. Ky and Cassia kiss.
- The group heads back to the cave and they all fill each other in. That night, they spot a man come out of a nearby house and bury a small girl.
- The man admits to being an Aberration on the run. His name is Hunter.
- Hunter takes Cassia through a cave to a Society storage cavern. The rest of the group follow. Cassia finds tissue samples from the Oria Province. The Society seems to be trying to bring people back to life.
- Hunter becomes angry and starts smashing things. They eventually all leave the caves.
- The group finds a bunch of maps, which is useful.
- Indie starts searching other houses int he village. Indie tells Ky that she stole the card from Cassia and that she wants to join the Rising.
- Hunter says he wanted to go with the Farmers when they left but his daughter was already dying and he couldn’t leave her.
- Hunter tries to give Cassia a map but it’s missing. Cassia realises Indie must have stolen it. They go to find her, but instead they find Ky burning it. Ky tells Cassia he doesn’t want to join the Rising.
- Indie reveals she has a crush on Xander. Cassia becomes annoyed.
- The group is about to leave the village. Ky reflects on the day his parents died. Cassia wants Eli to take the boat with her, but Eli wants to go with Hunter to join the Farmers. Ky tells Indie and Cassia to take the boat.
- Before leaving, Cassia declares her love for Ky and tells him she doesn’t care that he ran off when his parents were dying.
- Cassia and Indie reach a lake and are approached by another boat. Indie says they’re here to join the Rising and the girls are separated.
- Cassia is sent to Central, and when Ky arrives he is to be sent to Carnas.
