Goodreads Summary:

The phenomenon that's been sweeping the country seems to be here to stay. Not only are the teenagers who have come back from their graves still here, but newlydeads are being unearthed all the time. While scientists look for answers and politicians take their stands, the undead population of Oakville have banded together in a group they're calling the Sons of Romero, hoping to find solidarity in segregation.

Phoebe Kendall may be alive, but she feels just as lost and alone as her dead friends. Just when she reconciled herself to having feelings for a zombie -- her Homecoming date Tommy Williams -- her friend Adam is murdered taking a bullet that was meant for "her." Things get even more confusing when Adam comes back from the grave. Now she has romantic interest in two dead boys; one who saved her life, and one she can't seem to live without.

What happened in Kiss of Life?

  • Now that Adam is a zombie, Phoebe is desperate to make things normal and help Adam adjust.
  • Adam is unable to go to school at the moment because he’s still learning how to control his undead body.
  • Phoebe stops dressing in her goth clothes because she doesn’t want it to look like she’s upset about Adam.
  • Tommy tries to speak to Phoebe but she’s upset with him because he didn’t protect her from Pete’s bullet.
  • Adam goes to a zombie meeting, hoping to learn things about being a zombie and to become high functioning. He meets Melissa and Cooper, two other zombies.
  • There’s a trial about what happened that night. Adam attends but is unable to speak properly and give his statement.
  • Pete is given community service and told to go to therapy.
  • Phoebe heads back to school and dresses in her goth clothes again. She officially breaks up with Tommy because she’s no longer interested and her friend Adam needs her.
  • There’s a party at the Haunted House (because that went so well last time…) and Phoebe and Adam attend.
  • Adam goes to look at the place he died. Tak’s there, and the two talk about what Adam can expect from zombieism. Tak tells Adam he’ll hate the living eventually.
  • Pete’s father tells him to get plastic surgery to remove his facial scar.
  • A new guy called Duke starts asking Pete about zombies. He seems sus.
  • Adam’s karate master helps him practice some control of his body.
  • Tommy tells Phoebe he still fancies her.
  • Cooper tells everyone about the Dickinson House fire and how the living people tried to get rid of a bunch of zombies there.
  • Adam tries to push Phoebe away but it’s difficult. His step dad, Joe, teaches Phoebe how to drive.
  • Phoebe tries to kiss Adam and he turns her down.
  • Tommy is planning to leave town and he wants Phoebe and Karen to manage his website while he’s gone. Karen tries to get Phoebe to stop him but it doesn’t work. Another poem is exchanged.
  • Tommy asks Adam to look after the other zombies.
  • Pete asks Duke about his family, which isn’t very insightful.
  • Margi and Collette invite Phoebe to hang out with them but she doesn’t want to. She goes to check on Adam, who isn’t home, and then heads back to her house.
  • Phoebe’s mother shows her an article about zombies killing pets. Phoebe thinks it’s fake news.
  • Phoebe continues Tommy’s blog and exchanges emails with Tommy.
  • The group takes a trip to New York City. On the train, they bump into a band that’ll be playing at a zombie club called Aftermath. They all head over there together.
  • The club seems nice. The friends enjoy their night and the band.
  • Pete tells his therapist that he didn’t mean to hurt Adam, and that he just wanted to get rid of the zombies.
  • Duke tells Pete that he’s been killing pets in order to frame the zombies. He’s trying to get the public to hate them too.
  • There’s a class trip to the Haunted House. Tak insists they’re not the ones killing pets.
  • Joe tells Adam he shouldn’t push Phoebe away. Adam heads over to Phoebe’s house and they kiss. Adam was half expecting a resurrection from the kiss but it doesn’t work.
  • They go on a cute date to the mall.
  • Pete and Duke start framing the zombies for digging up graves.
  • Karen doesn’t want to join Tak’s group yet.
  • Detectives start investigating the grave digging.
  • People start becoming paranoid about zombies and the zombies have to be careful around the school.
  • Margi, Collette, and Phoebe have a sleepover and they bond a bit.
  • Duke shows Pete one of the zombie experiments. It’s a girl called Sylvia who has been dismembered. She’s still undead but probably shouldn’t be in that state. Duke tries to get Pete involved in the experiments.
  • The friends head to Aftermath again and Collette meets up with a cutie called DeCayce and stays with him.
  • Pete trolls the study group and tells them Sylvia is back. They see that she’s dismembered and are quite upset. Alish and Angela try to make out that Sylvia is being helped.
  • Karen sends photos of Sylvia to several news stations.
  • Pete and Duke trick people into thinking that zombies are recruiting the living. They pretend that Pete’s family have gone missing.
  • There’s a fight at the church and the cops have to chase off the Sons of Romero. Because this is all so dangerous right now, the zombies have to go into hiding.
