What happened in Magic Study?
- Yelena has returned to Sitia to train to use her magic. She needs to gain control of it so she’s less unstable and less dangerous. She has to leave Valek behind in Ixia.
- Yelena arrives in Sitia and meets her parents and older brother, Leif, of the Zaltana clan. Leif really doesn’t like her and thinks she could be spying for Ixia. At least her parents are welcoming…
- Leif goes to meet with the Council at the Academy. They plan to discuss what to do with Yelena. He takes Yelena with him so she can train her magic.
- En route, Cahil and his soldiers ambush them. Cahil thinks himself the heir to Ixia. Valek probably should have killed him when the Commander took over but he didn’t. Cahil tries to get information out of Yelena, who obviously doesn’t know anything because she’s not a spy. He chains her up.
- Yelena is able to escape because Cahil is a bit hopeless. She does return to him though because she wants to make a deal.
- Cahil agrees to let her tag along with him. He presents her to Roze, the First Magician, who enters Yelena’s mind to check whether she’s a spy. She’s obviously not.
- Yelena spends some time recovering before beginning her training.
- Yelena discovers that she is a Soulfinder. These magic users are very powerful and could steal people’s souls. The last guy who did that was awful and had to be killed.
- Yelena finds that she’s able to influence people and take over their bodies.
- Irys, the Fourth Magician, really doesn’t get on with Yelena.
- Yelena goes to find the serial killer, Ferde, who has been picking off girls, and Irys breaks their mind link.
- Valek arrives at the Academy in disguise. He and Leif are able to help Yelena capture the serial killer.
- Yelena and the other magicians fight off some other rogues but eventually they have to retreat.
- Valek and his crew return to Ixia. The Commander requests that Yelena joins them for a bit. He asks her to spy for him.
- Yelena is appalled at the idea and has something better in mind. She wants to pursue her training, and once complete she will act as an intermediary between Sitia and Ixia.
