Goodreads Summary:

After centuries of bitter strife, the seven powers dividing the land have beaten one another into an uneasy truce. But it's not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters of the Seven Kingdoms gather. Now, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed while surprising faces—some familiar, others only just appearing—emerge from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges of the terrible times ahead. Nobles and commoners, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and sages, are coming together to stake their fortunes...and their lives. For at a feast for crows, many are the guests—but only a few are the survivors.

what happened in A Feast For Crows?

  • The Alchemist is introduced.

  • Harys Swyft becomes Hand of the King.
  • Jon Snow wants Samwell Tarly to take Maester Aemon back to the Citadel so he can research the Others. Gilly goes with Samwell.
  • Melisandre wants to kill Mance Rayder to bring the stone dragons back to life (yes, she’s still going on about that).
  • Sam, Aemon, and Gilly sail to Braavos. Aemon reveals that Gilly swapped her baby with Mance Rayder’s.
  • Samwell hears rumours of a three-headed dragon. Aemon thinks Dany is “the prince that was promised” from the prophecy.
  • Aemon dies when he and the others head to Meereen.
  • Brienne is still trying to find Sansa. She is accompanied by Podrick Payne.
  • One of the Bloody Mummers tells Brienne that Sandor Clegane had travelled with Arya Stark.
  • Brienne is captured by the Brotherhood Without Banners because they will not stop. Thoros of Myr tells Brienne that Beric Dondarrion is actually dead now.
  • Brienne meets the resurrected Catelyn Stark, who is now called Lady Stoneheart.
  • Catelyn is mad at Brienne for setting Jaime free and not having Arya and Sansa. Catelyn asks Brienne to kill Jaime. Brienne refuses and Catelyn has her and Pod hanged.
  • Cersei kills the High Septon, but someone else takes power. The new High Septon asks Cersei to restore the Faith Militant, and in return he’ll forgive the Crown of its debts.
  • The Lords of the Vale aren’t happy with Littlefinger but they let him become Lord Protector of Robert Arryn, Lysa’s creepy son.
  • Littlefinger all but tells Sansa that if Robert Arryn were to die, the Eyrie would go to a distant nephew called Harrold, who could potentially marry Sansa. This would give Sansa an army.
  • Sansa befriends one of Robert’s bastard daughters, Mya.
  • Jaime goes to Riverrun. He uses Edmure Tully as a hostage to get Brynden Tully to surrender. Edmure goes back to Riverrun. Brynden escapes the castle before the Lannisters seize it. Edmure is sent to Casterly Rock for his betrayal.

  • Mace Tyrell returns to King’s Landing to check on Margaery.
  • Samwell and Gilly get to Oldtown. Archmaester Marwyn greets Sam before he can talk to anyone else. He’s unimpressed by the news about Dany and the prophecy. Marwyn says that the maesters killed the dragons centuries ago to rid the world of magic. Marwyn leaves for Slaver’s Bay and tells Sam to study hard.
  • Arya goes to the House of Black and White and joins up with the Faceless Men.
  • The Faceless Men are a bunch of religious assassins whose assassins are believed to be holy.
  • Arya becomes Cat of the Canals. She also becomes blind for some reason. The priests are weird.
  • The Greyjoys try to figure out who is to become heir now that Balon is dead. Asha, Theon’s sister, wants to go for it. Euron, Balon’s brother, wants the crown, and says he’ll take Dany’s dragons in order to rule Westeros. Everyone likes this idea and Euron is crowned.
  • Asha leaves.
  • Euron sends his brother, Victarion, to Slaver’s Bay to deliver Euron’s marriage proposal to Dany. Victorian decides he’s going to propose to Dany himself.
