Goodreads Summary:

Small-town cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse has had more than her share of experience with the supernatural—but now it’s really hitting close to home. When Sookie sees her brother Jason’s eyes start to change, she knows he’s about to turn into a were-panther for the first time—a transformation he embraces more readily than most shapeshifters she knows. But her concern becomes cold fear when a sniper sets his deadly sights on the local changeling population, and Jason’s new panther brethren suspect he may be the shooter. Now, Sookie has until the next full moon to find out who’s behind the attacks—unless the killer decides to find her first…

What happened in Dead As A Doornail?

  • Calvin picks Jason up as the full moon is coming up and Jason will have to go through his shift. Jason has been struggling with his new powers and transitions.
  • After the full moon shenanigans are over, Calvin gets shot. He’s alive, but wounded. Sookie and Jason go to see him.
  • The guard lets Sookie into Calvin’s room. He tells her a female shifter was shot and killed. The shifters all think it was Jason, for some reason. Probably revenge.
  • Sookie defends her brother, and Calvin promises to try to look after Jason.
  • Sam gets shot while he and Sookie are leaving work. He gets shot in the leg and has to take some time off work.
  • Terry tries to help out at the bar but is terrible, so Sam asks Sookie to ask Eric if he can provide a bar tender until Sam recovers. He loans a vampire called Charles for a bit.
  • Alcide tells Sookie that Cronal Flood died. There was a devastating car accident. Sookie and Alcide attend the funeral, where the pack are looking for a new leader. Sookie is annoyed with Alcide for not telling her what the event would be.
  • Alcide comes back with how he knows Sookie killed Debbie.
  • Sookie’s house is set on fire. Sookie is rescued by Claudine. Charles kills the person who started the fire, who seems to be a member of the Fellowship of the Sun.
  • Alcide offers Sookie a room at his place but she doesn’t want to move in with him. She goes to stay at Jason’s place instead.
  • Bill brings his new girlfriend to the bar and she and Sookie exchange a few words. Sookie becomes quite jealous.
  • Sam lets Sookie move into one of his apartments.
  • Sookie visits Calvin again, then heads to the library. Someone shoots her in the shoulder and Sookie is taken to hospital. Bill stays with her overnight.
  • Tara tells Sookie that Franklin, a vampire she was with, gave her to another vampire called Mickey as payment. Sookie asks Eric to help her friend. In return, Sookie has to tell Eric what happened when he lost his memory.
  • Mickey shows up and threatens to kill Tara. Eric fights, and is injured so has to drink Sookie’s blood to heal. Mickey attacks Sookie, but she rescinds the invitation into her house and he has to leave.
  • The next morning, Tara is gone.
  • Alcide invites Sookie to attend the pack competition where they’ll get a new leader.
  • Sookie asks for Sam’s help to – literally – sniff out the shooter. While they’re looking around some alley, Sweetie appears with a rifle, along with Andy. Sweetie admits that she’s the shooter and she’s trying to get revenge on shifters because she was bitten herself.
  • Andy shoots Sweetie.
  • The pack competition goes ahead in Shreveport. Sookie realises that one of the competitors has taken drugs to help him win, so Sookie tells the referee.
  • The referee, Quinn, licks Sookie’s leg at one point. Idk.
  • A mating ritual begins after Jackson is killed. Sookie and Alcide head home.
  • Eric sends a message to the bar through Bubba, which says “He is not what he seems.”
  • Charles was actually hired to kill Sookie. He tries to do so, but is killed himself. Not by Sookie, though.
  • Eric shows up – late.
