Goodreads Summary:

The vamps have been out for years, and now the weres and shifters have decided to follow the lead of the undead and reveal their existence to the ordinary world. Sookie Stackhouse already knows about them, of course - her brother turns into a panther at the full moon, she's friend to the local were pack, and Sam, her boss at Merlotte's bar, is a shapeshifter.

The great revelation goes well at first - then the horribly mutilated body of a were-panther is found in the parking lot of Merlotte's, and Sookie agrees to use her telepathic talent to track down the murderer. But there is a far greater danger than this killer threatening Bon Temps: a race of unhuman beings, older, more powerful, and far more secretive than the vampires or the werewolves, is preparing for war. And Sookie is an all-too-human pawn in their ages-old battle...

What happened in Dead and Gone?

  • Sookie hears her housemate, Amelia, thinking about the Revelation – a big event during which were-creatues will announce themselves to the world. It is going to happen that evening.
  • While at work, Sookie sees a werewolf on the news. She shifts live on camera. Sam and Trey shift at the bar too. Arlene freaks out and starts shouting abuse at Sookie. Arlene quits.
  • Don, Sam’s stepfather, calls and tells him he has shot Sam’s mother in the shoulder. He’s very upset. Sam leaves town to take care of his mother.
  • Bobby gives Sookie a message and a package from Eric. Sookie heads to Fangtasia, taking the package with her. Pam tells Sookie that Eric is meeting with Louisiana’s king. It turns out the package contains a marriage knife, and Eric and Sookie are now bound so that the king won’t go after Sookie.
  • The FBI arrive at Sookie’s doorstep, asking questions about what happened in Rhodes. They enquire about Barry.
  • Sookie is called to the bar and takes the agents with her. Sookie arrives and finds Crystal, Jason’s wife, crucified in the car park. Crystal’s uncle, Calvin, wants to conduct his own investigation which would start with him sniffing the body for evidence, but the police won’t let him approach. Eventually the police leave, and Calvin tries to find a scent, but there are too many to distinquish.
  • Sookie fills Eric in about Crystal. Eric then tells Sookie about his background, and that he had a wife called Aud who died during childbirth. His sire was called Appius.
  • Sam returns to town, and Sookie tells him what happened. Sam is annoyed with Sookie for the marriage and tells her she’s stupid to trust Eric. sookie leaves.
  • Tara tells Sookie that she is pregnant.
  • Someone calls the house for Octavia, who is asked to call Mr Chambers back. Octavia bursts into tears.
  • Sookie once again goes to work. Niall is there and he warns her that she should be careful. The FBI also arrive and seem interested in Niall. They ask some questions about Crystal.
  • Octavia has packed her things by the time Sookie returns. She is planning on going back to New Orleans.
  • Diantha tells Sookie to be careful, too.
  • Sookie meets with Claude and Claudine, who finally fill her in. The faeries are basically at odds right now as they’re split between water faeries and sky faeries. Apparently there’s a faerie going around who looks a lot like Jason.
  • Sookie is attacked by a faerie when she is doing some gardening. It turns out this is a guy called Murry, who works for Breandan.
  • Quinn tries to get back together with Sookie but she turns him down. Bill then shows up and fights Quinn. Sookie gets hurt, and Eric heals her. It’s all a bit of a mess.
  • Arlena apologises for her behaviour and asks for her job back. Sookie goes to speak to her and overhears the Fellowship of the Sun folks talking about their plans for Sookie,a nd what they did to Crystal. Sookie calls the cops on them.
  • Sookie finds Arlene and the Fellowship come out with guns. There’s a gun fight and one of the FBI agents gets hurt.
  • After it’s all over, Sookie spots a faerie watching her. Apparently one has been waiting at the bar for her too.
  • Sookie speaks to Amelia about the goings on.
  • Hadley’s ex Remi calls Sookie and wants to talk about Hunter’s powers. Sookie asks him to postpone until the faerie situation is sorted.
  • Amelia introduces Sookie to a friend of Trey’s, who looks a lot like Jason. Sookie calls Eric immediately and asks for the king’s help.
  • Sookie calls her brother and asks for his protection. Jason says a guy who looks like him has been hanging about. Sookie fills Jason in on the faerie situation and says that Durmont, their grand-uncle, wants her dead.
  • Sookie realises that Mel killed Crystal. Mel admits that it was an accident, and Crystal’s body was stolen.
  • Sookie heads to Trey’s house to meet with Amelia, but no one is home. She calls Bill, who checks the house. No one is there.
  • Sookie gets knocked out as she’s trying to get in her own house. She has been captured by faeries who want to torture her in order to get Niall to do what they want. Breandan is planning on stealing the bridge between the worlds.
  • Bill and Niall eventually arrive to help. Sookie is taken to hospital.
  • The faeries kill Trey.
  • Niall tells Sookie he plans to seal the world from faeries in order to protect humans. He tells her that “the vampire” is a good man… which could mean any of them.
