What happened in Kingdom of the Cursed?
- As you may recall, in the first book Kingdom of the Wicked Emilia signed a contract with the devil. She’s now on her way to the seven circles with Wrath, who seems annoyed with her.
- Emilia has agreed to marry Pride, which might be why Wrath is annoyed. Emilia is insistant on doing this, though, because she needs to find out who made Antonio kill her sister, Vittoria.
- Wrath escorts Emilia through the Sin Corridor, which is an icy region of Hell where Emilia is to be tested. Wrath warns Emilia that it’ll test her sins.
- They’re forced to take shelter for the night because of an ice storm. Emilia has a wet dream about Wrath and starts undressing herself. Wrath wakes her up.
- Emilia ends up getting hypothermia. Wrath takes her back to his palace and has his staff take care of her. Emilia regains her strength, and expects to be taken to Pride, but Wrath tells Emilia that they need permission to enter Pride’s realm, and Pride hasn’t given it yet.
- Emilia is confused because as his betrothed, surely Pride should let her in?
- Anir, one of Wrath’s staff, tells Emilia about how Pride’s previous fiancee died.
- A magic skull is placed in Emilia’s room. It is able to speak in Vittoria’s voice, which is nice and creepy. Emilia doesn’t tell anyone about the skull and hides it away for later.
- The other princes plan on hosting a party for the Feast of the Wolf. Wrath tells Emilia that typically at these things there is a guest of honour who must give up a fear or secret to everyone. It’ll probably be Emilia, lbr.
- Emilia realises that Wrath doesn’t want her to marry Pride. Emilia asks why Wrath didn’t warn her, but it mostly met with silence. We love secrets in this house.
- Wrath tells Emilia that her Nonna hasn’t told her everything about the witchy stuff and demons. They talk about La Prima Strega, the first witch, who had to make a blood sacrifice to the devil.
- Emilia heads to Wrath’s giant library and finds a grimoire. She learns about the history of magic and her bloodline. She learns that witches in general normally favour one element, and there’s a rare one called aether too. Emilia tests her magic out a little and feels something more powerful than she has ever felt before. She creeps herself out and stops.
- Lady Fauna introduces herself as a member of Wrath’s court. Fauna really fancies Anir. Fauna is fairly nice, and promises to show Emilia the ropes.
- Emilia and Wrath go and speak to the Crone. It’s all very suspicious and mostly unhelpful.
- Emilia finds another skull in her room. This one has a message for her. Wrath finds out that someone has been placing skulls there and the two of them argue. Emilia refuses to get rid of the skulls as they might be useful.
- Envy invites Emilia over and gives her a tour of his place. He takes some truth serum and answers Emilia’s questions. Emilia steals a book from him and is cursed for her trouble.
- Emilia wanders into Pride’s territory, and is arrested. Pride lets her go without speaking to her, though.
- At the Feast, Emilia dances with Pride and tries to get some information out of him. He’s not as chatty as his brothers, which… means he’s not chatty at all.
- Emilia discovers that Wrath is actually the devil, and that she has been betrothed to him this entire time. His real name is Samael.
- Emilia discovers that Vittoria is still alive.
