What happened in Saga Volume 10?

  • Saga Volume 10 begins three years after Marko was killed. Hazel has just celebrated her tenth birthday, and Alana is working with a guy called Bombazine to illegally trade baby formula.
  • Hazel is helping out by using magic to protect herself as she commits theft. Squire has also been adopted into the family as Robot IV is also dead. Squire is currently mute due to the trauma.
  • The Will heads back to Wreath High Command and presents them with Marko’s skull. He finds that Vez has been replaced by Gwendolyn, who is super upset and also turned on when she sees Marko’s skull, so she has sex with The Will and then invites him to the Robot Kingdom.
  • A pirate ship led by Skipper intercepts the treehouse rocket ship.
  • Hazel learns that her mother has been smuggling goods. She doesn’t know it’s drugs.
  • King Robot mourns his dead son upon receiving his remains. He demands that his son’s killer is caught. A visitor arrives with information.
  • Skipper and his crew introduce themselves. The crew tell the family that they’re a band, and Skipper has promised to produce a demo for them.
  • Hazel loves the whole band idea, and starts learning to play the guitar.
  • Alana tells Skipper that she isn’t interested in using the drugs that she’s smuggling – she’s only trying to make enough money to have a legit life with her family. Skipper tells Alana that the government poisons the Fadeaway to discourage using it.
  • Skipper asks Alana to take the drugs to Perigons, where drug dealers are basically executed on sight. Skipper tells Alana that he will get her a vendor’s license in return, so she accepts.
  • Skipper tells Alana to disrobe to prove that she’s not a Landfallian, and becomes violent when Alana refuses.
  • There’s a flashback to when Alana visited Endwife after Marko’s death. She wants to have her wings removed. Endwife does so, and also introduces Alana to her contacts.
  • Alana shows Skipper her back, now sans wings. Skipper apologises, and promises her a bonus if she helps deliver some Fadeaway with him.
  • The Will has arrived with King Robot and gives him Marko’s skull. He tells him Marko killed Robot IV.
  • Alana heads to meet with Skipper’s buyer, leaving the children on the pirate ship with Bombazine.
  • Alana meets with the buyer and they talk about their lost spouses. He encourages Alana to finish Marko’s novel.
  • Hazel learns to play the guitar, and Squire learns the drums.
  • Skipper tells Bombazine that he knows he used to go by The Butcher. He asks Bombazine for a favour.
  • Special Agent Gale is confronted by Director Croze, who is angry that Hazel is still “at large”. Croze tells Gale to hunt Hazel down and kill her and her family.
  • The bandmates get into an argument and Squire is accidentally hurt. Hazel threatens them.
  • Gale blackmails a guy called Tjumpseat and makes him perform a spell on Marko’s skull to enable Gale to track Hazel.
  • The spell shows that Marko’s closest relative is on Landfall. Gale kills Tjumpseat.
  • The band breaks up and Drums and Guitar (Dranken and Hectare) want to head off with the family. Bombazine announces that he’s staying on the ship with Skipper.

  • Squire tells Hazel that he is in love with her.
  • Gale interrogates Klara, who didn’t know that Marko was dead. A prison guard stops Gale from killing her.

  • The family heads out for the evening.
  • Hazel tells Squire she loves him as a brother.
  • They return to the treehouse rocket ship, and find it up in flames. Now they’re homeless.
