Goodreads Summary:

Eve Levine - half-demon, black witch and devoted mother - has been dead for three years. She has a great house, an interesting love life and can't be killed again. Yes, the afterlife isn't too bad. But the Fates have plans for her. Eve owes them a favour and they've called it in.

Here is a spoiler summary of what happened in Haunted by Kelley Armstrong to help refresh your memory before you read the sequel.

What happened in Haunted?

  • Eve has been guiding people through the afterlife and it’s been going okay for her. She still hasn’t found a way to get back to Savannah though.
  • The Fates call on Eve because a Nix has been terrorising people in the human realm. The Fates want Eve to stop the Nix. In order to do so, Eve will have to speak to Jamie Vegas and get her on board.
  • Jamie asks Eve to get rid of a ghost for her. This guy keeps coming back and asking Jamie to get revenge on the girl he hit during a DUI (that actually killed him). Eve promises to get rid of him.
  • Eve heads to a psychiatric hospital with Kristof to deal with some haunters. They get rid of Ted and the other ghosts.
  • Eve comes across a couple of angels, as you do. Janah thinks finding the Nix is a job for an angel, Trsiel disagrees.
  • Eve goes and checks in on Savannah and the rest of Kristof’s children. It’s all fine.
  • Jamie asks Jeremy (werewolf Jeremy) for any info he might have on the Nix.
  • Eve chases a ghost boy through a prison. His name is George and he passed away from smallpox. He doesn’t realise he’s a ghost, and Trsiel believes it’s best not to tell him.
  • Eve sees Lizzie Borden (from the children’s rhyme) give her father forty whacks and figures she must have been in partnership with the Nix or something. Lizzie has created this own personal hell for herself.
  • Eve and Kristof head to Honduras to go to Roatan. They need the help of pirates, which is kind of cool.
  • They need to find out if Luther Ross was tutoring the Nix. It turns out he doesn’t know anything.
  • Eve gets hold of an angel sword to help her kill the Nix.
  • Eve gets concerned that the Nix is heading to Portland to go after Savannah. Trsiel reassures her that it can’t happen, because whoever the Nix chooses as a partner will choose the victim.
  • They head to Portland to find the newest partner, Lily. There’s a fight, Lily passes out, and the Nix leaves. Savannah unfortunately gets caught up in the whole thing.
  • Eve and Trsiel head to Scotland and bump into a demon. Cool. It wants to bargain with Eve but Trsiel warns her not to trust it.
  • They figure the Nix wants Dantalin’s Amulet.
  • Kris and Eve get back together, I guess.
  • The Nix impersonates Eve and visits Jamie.
  • Eve goes to find Dachev so he can tell her how to kill the Nix. There’s a massive fight but Eve doesn’t come out of it too badly.
  • Eve impersonates Paige and it goes horribly because Lucas figures it out immediately. She tried. Eve doesn’t let on that she’s Eve but she does fill Lucas in on some of the details about the Nix.

How did Haunted end?

  • The Nix, as Jamie, had headed over to see Savannah and co. The Nix tries to attack Savannah but Savannah fights her off and it’s pretty epic.
  • Until the Nix possesses Savannah and almost kills Eve. But it’s okay because Eve can cast a spell that gets rid of the Nix and turns Eve into an angel. Apparently this was the Fates’ plan all along, but I’m not so sure.
  • Anyway, now Eve will be an angel for half the year and a ghost for the other half. Nice.
