what happened in Saga Volume 1?
- Alana and Marko are in hiding. They’re meant to be on opposite sides of the war, but they fell in love. Alana gives birth to their baby right at the beginning of the book. Now people from both sides are after them.
- Landfall and Wreath have been warring for years. Alana fought on one side, and Marko on the other.
- Military police officers find them, as do some magic users. The two sides fight each other and Alana, Marko, and their baby are caught in the middle. Both sides suffer heavy losses and then Alana and Marko are able to escape.
- Prince Robot IV is met by Special Agent Gale from the secret intelligence. Gale is after Alana and Marko too. Gale tells IV that his father, the King, wants IV to hunt them down.
- Alana and Marko are given a map to the rocket ship forest. It’s exactly what it sounds like.
- A freelancer called The Will is hired to track down Alana and Marko. At this point, assume everyone is after them.
- Alana and Marko take the baby to the forest. They see a battle happening in the distance. Marko starts worrying about the Horrors, which Alana thinks are a myth. They name their baby Hazel.
- Alana and Marko struggle through the forest and get caught up in the vines. Marko has to use a spell to help them escape.
- Prince Robot IV heads to Cleave, where Alana and Marko are hiding out.
- Another freelancer called The Stalk finds the couple. She stabs Marko with her pointy tongue. Alana threatens to kill the baby if The Stalk doesn’t leave them alone. The Horrors scare The Stalk off.
- The Horrors turn out to be some ghostly kids. They’re alright. One of them (Izabel) offers to help the Alana and Marko, but she has to be bonded to Hazel to do it.
- Prince Robot IV heads to the prison that Marko escaped from. He interrogates another prisoner for information.
- The Stalk calls The Will. The two have history. She asks him for help with finding the couple.
- Izabel leads the family through the forest and into some caves. She thinks she can find them some snow to help with Marko’s wound. Marko calls Alana Gwendolyn, which worries her because that is not her name.
- Marko heals in the snow, and Alana asks who Gwendolyn is.
- The Will lands on Sextillion. It’s a planet for… well, yeah.
- Izabel officially becomes Hazel’s babysitter.
- Marko admits he was once engaged to someone called Gwendolyn in high school. Alana’s wedding ring used to belong to Gwendolyn’s grandparents. As you can imagine, this doesn’t go down well.
- The Will is offered a six year old. He kills the big boss for being disgusting.
- IV’s wife tells him she’s expecting.
- Scouts find Marko and Alana. Marko loses it and fights them off, but not before they call it in to IV. Alana flies the scouts’ ship out of there.
- The Will tries to take the girl away, but her owner explains that the girls can’t be taken from the planet. The Will calls The Stalk for help and she answers. Then she’s shot.
- Alana and Marko find a rocketship and it takes off.
- The Will is still on the phone. IV answers it and tells him The Stalk has been KIA. The Will promises to go after IV.
- Prince Robot IV has been reading a book that he knows Alana loves. He assumes Alana is going to find the author on Quietus.
- Marko’s parents arrive on the ship.
