Goodreads Summary:

Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.

At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.

What happened in Sapphire Blue?

  • Prologue: Lucy and Paul have been to 1602 to watch Hamlet. They see someone get murdered.
  • Gideon kisses Gwen. Gwen sees a gargoyle demon called Xemerius. They jump back to the present day and head back to the Lodge.
  • Gideon tells Gwen he is living alone in his apartment because his mother has married a French guy and moved over to France to be with him. They also have a child called Raphael.
  • Gideon tells Gwen he doesn’t like having the time travel gene because it kind of sucks.
  • Xemerius has followed the pair back to the Temple.
  • They meet with the Inner Circle and discuss Lucy and Paul. The Inner Circle think Gwen told Lucy and Paul about Lady Tilney.
  • Gwen is sent to 1948, when the Olympics are being held in London. She bumps into Lord Lucas Montrose, who is her grandfather. Lucas tells Gwen that she gave him a note telling him to meet her.
  • Gwen tells Lucas she is his grandchild, and tells him what Lucy and Paul have been up to – stealing the chronograph and all that.
  • Gwen and Lucas agree to meet again in 1956 and Gwen heads home to the present.
  • Lady Arista tells Gwen that Charlotte will teach her the ways of time travel. It’s a bit late for training but anyway…
  • Mr Marley takes Gwen and Charlotte to the Temple. Gwen meets Giordano, and is taught to dance. This is so Gwen will be prepared for a soiree.
  • Gideon takes Gwen home, and tells her that his brother Raphael has run away from home.
  • The group learns that Raphael will be joining their school, St Lennox High.
  • Xemerius tells Gwen that Gideon was knocked out, but seems to be okay.
  • There are more dance lessons, and then Gwen goes back to 1956. She meets with Lucas and tells everyone she is his cousin. They head to a cafe to talk.
  • Lucas tells Gwen that she could use the chronograph to go further back in time. Lucas says he sent Lucy and Paul to 1602 to watch Hamlet, and they came back and told him about the murder.
  • It was Count Saint- Germain who murdered Lancelot de Villiers. Lancelot was the first ever time traveller and Gwen is his descendant.
  • Lucas escorts Gwen to the Temple, and tells her that Count Saint-Germain had a lot of enemies and he found another way to use the chronograph.
  • Lesley breaks a code written in The Green Rider. They don’t know what the code means, though.
  • Gideon tells Gwen that he thinks she hit him on the head and knocked him out. It’s probably a time travel thing.
  • Gwen attends the soiree hosted by the Bromptons. Gwen chats to Lady Brompton. She is groped by Mr Merchant, who is gross. Lady Lavinia flirts with Gideon.
  • Gwen and Gideon perform a song from Cats together.
  • Gwen encounters the Count and Lord Alastair, who is a descendant of the gounder of the Florentine Alliance. This Alliance is supposed to get rid of demons, and in Alastair’s eyes time travellers are demons.
  • Gideon and Gwen leave and go back to the present.
  • Raphael figures out that the code leads to GPS coordinates.
  • Gwen goes back in time to the day before the soiree to meet with the Count. The Count seems very happy that Gwen and Gideon are into each other. The Count congratulates Gideon, and Gwen asks what the hell he’s talking about.
  • Gideon and Gwen head back to the present. Gideon pretends he’s not in love with her, but he did trick her. Gwen storms off.
  • Paul meets with Lord Alastair, and the two exchange information. Alastair gives Paul the Count’s papers, and Paul is meant to give Alastair information on the family trees of the time travellers. Except Alastair hasn’t kept up his end of the bargain, adn there’s a fight. Paul is badly injured.
  • Gideon shows up and saves Paul, but the documents are lost.
  • Paul tells Gideon to read the Count’s documents and to keep the circle from being closed so Gwen can live.
