Goodreads Summary:

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

When The Two Rivers is attacked by Trollocs-a savage tribe of half-men, half-beasts- five villagers flee that night into a world they barely imagined, with new dangers waiting in the shadows and in the light.

What happened in The Eye of the World?

  • Lews Therin Telamon is mad. He has been using tainted magic, which caused him to kill his family. Overwhelmed with guilt, he takes his own life. Lews Therin Telamon is known as the Dragon.
  • Rand is heading back to his village of Emond’s Field for the festival when he comes across a cloaked stranger. Mat and Perrin see the same guy and think he’s dodge.
  • Other people start to arrive for the festival, including Moiraine and Lan.
  • At his home, Rand is attacked by Trollocs. He and his father, Tam, escape but Tam is gravely wounded. He lets slip that Rand is adopted. Classic.
  • Turns out that Tam found Rand on the mountain when he was a baby and took him back to the village to raise him as his own.
  • The cloaked man attacks Rand, who flees into the village. Something has burnt the village pretty much to the ground, and many are dead.
  • Moiraine starts to heal people. She knows some stuff about the cloaked figure, which is actually a Myrddraal. It was looking for one of the group of friends, but she’s not sure who. In order to protect them, she takes Rand, Mat, and Perrin to Baerlon with her. Egwene (Rand’s girlfriend) and Thom go along with the group.
  • Nynaeve follows the group and meets up with them in Baerlon. Just in time, because Trollocs arrive and the group has to leave.
  • The group ends up in Shadar Logoth. Here, they bump into Mordeth.
  • Mat steals a dagger which is the WORST IDEA.
  • The group gets separated when more Trollocs arrive in the ruined city.
  • A guy called Elyas agrees to take Egwene and Perrin to Caemlyn. He also says he can talk to wolves, which is a cool power.
  • Egwene and Perrin get captured by Whitecloaks along the way, and the Whitecloaks realise that Perrin can talk to wolves too. This apparently means Perrin is a Darkfriend, but I think it’s just a really cool ability.
  • After boating it down a river, Rand, Mat, and Thom end up near Whitebridge. A Myrddraal fights them, and presumably kills Thom while the other two run away. They make it to Caemlyn, thankfully.
  • Nynaeve reaches Moiraine, and tells her that she can channel saidar. Together, they rescue Perrin and Egwene from the Whitecloaks.
  • In Caemlyn, Rand climbs over a wall to see what’s going on. He meets the queen, as you do, and the Aes Sedai Elaida tells Rand that he will shake the world. That’s a hell of a prophecy.
  • The whole group is reunited but Mat ruins everything because the dagger has been making him paranoid. Moiraine tries to break the connection but she’s unable to do that completely. She uses an angreal to diminish the dagger’s power.
  • The group gets talking about the Eye of the World, which is something the Shadow and its agents are heading towards.
  • Loial takes the group to the Ways, which is a shortcut for travelers that is now abandoned and neglected. Apparently the Trollocs use it too.
  • The group heads through a wilderness called the Great Blight and fight off monsters.
  • The Eye of the World reaches the group. The Green Man is its protector.
  • The Forsaken arrive and try to get to the Eye. The Green Man fights one of them off, while Rand fights the other one. The Eye’s power destroys the Forsaken.
  • Rand hits Ba’alzamon with a light sword. A light sabre, if you will.
  • Moiraine thinks this means the prophecy was correct and that Rand is the Dragon Reborn.
